Systems designed to eliminate risk

Compliant with the RESS requirements of the New Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, replacing the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

Hydroservice supports its customers in developing hydraulic command and control systems already compliant with the essential health and safety requirements (RESS) of the New Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, which replaces the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC as of 20 January 2027, ensuring that any hardware, software or system failures do not create hazardous situations for the operator.

From risk analysis to Performance Level

Hydraulic and mechatronic expertise at the service of safety

The applicable harmonised standard is UNI EN ISO 13849-1:2023, which defines the design requirements for safety-related control and command circuits (SRP/CS). Drawing on its expertise in hydraulics and mechatronics and using certified software, Hydroservice selects architectures and components suitable for achieving the required safety function.

Support covers the entire engineering phase: from the analysis of applicable product standards and the preparation of the risk assessment, through to the selection of certified components to achieve the Performance Level (PL) defined by the standard.

What we evaluate for each safety circuit

Four technical indicators to measure and guarantee the safety level required by the standard.

  • CCF (Common Cause Failure) — Circuit robustness against a common cause of failure, calculated based on technology, architecture, application type and operating environment.
  • MTTFd (Mean Time to Failure Dangerous) — Average lifespan of a component before a dangerous failure occurs; used to derive the dangerous failure rate (λd).
  • B10d — Average number of cycles before a dangerous failure; requires defining the machine's operating cycle, running hours and frequency of use.
  • DC (Diagnostic Coverage) — Diagnostic coverage that the control system performs on the components executing the safety function.

At the end of the design process, Hydroservice issues the calculation report for the achieved Performance Level [PL], to be included in the machine's technical file to document compliance with the requirements of the Regulation.
